A Not So Silent Night
Don’t deck the halls, check the halls as the CHICKAdivas’ Christmas concert makes a return engagement with A Not So Silent Night, an evening of song and merriment a cappella style.
The CHICKAdivas, one of Edmonton’s top a cappella groups, are back after having taken a break from their annual home-grown Christmas concert tradition— when they detoured from Edmonton halls into Alberta halls for shows “on the prairie” — and an event that promises to be more fun than ever.
Old and new favourite CHICKAdivas songs will highlight the a cappella (vocal harmony) event including a few surprises such as an operatic spoof, entitled Bring Out the Diva, where you’ll hear opera including snippets of Bizet, Mozart and Wagner like you’ve never heard them before. And lest you think they’ll be throwing tradition out the window — it’s actually to cold for that — the evening will end on a high note with the audience encouraged to sing along to time-honoured Christmas carols.
If that’s not enough, get a head start on your Christmas shopping with the CHICKS’ fabulous silent auction, another tradition that returns and supports local merchants. The auction includes pretty paintings, masterful mosaics and tantalizing treats.
And there’s more: the CHICKS’ newest addition, Bartha Hartman, will add her own twist of joy to the world. Owner of the St. Thomas Café & Bistro in St. Albert, she will bring along a selection of her restaurant’s succulent dessert squares as well as hot beverages for purchase at nominal prices. So - save room for dessert!
The CHICKAdivas — Dena Epp (alto), Regina Landeck (mezzo-soprano), Marion McFall (mezzo-soprano), Rebecca Patterson (soprano) and newcomer Bartha Hartman (alto—most of the time) — are an engaging all-female a cappella ensemble who will energize your holiday mood with swinging, jazzy arrangements and humorous takes on the holiday season.
